Fair. Fairness. It’s just not fair. You need to be fair. Do you know there’s multiple different definitions of fairness?

I bet you have a very particular definition of fairness. So take an opportunity to break it down. What do you consider fair? And not just a specific time that something wasn’t fair, go a little bit deeper.

What was an underlying theme or a common theme that you have about your definition of fairness? At work, is it we reward effort? We reward performance, or is it something else?

I will bet there are multiple, multiple different definitions of fairness out there for you, and also for others. Take a few minutes to try to figure out what your definition is. And keep your eyes up and ears up for what in people’s day to day interactions. And their day to day comments they view as fair. Because when people feel it’s not fair, there’s a conflict brewing.
